"What space represents in the art of memory is also the role that plays time in the culture of remembering.” This is how world-famous German religious historian Jan Assmann characterises the relationship to the past; speaking of a kind of "past” which emerges not simply from the passage of time, by "how people's relationship to it develops.” The Duna Art Ensemble has been living in this relationship in its everyday life for 60 years now, growing up in, becoming known in it and creating its ident...ity in it. We have been (and are) dedicated to preserving the treasures of Hungarian (and Central European) folk dance and forming it into arts, meaning that our task is not simply remembering, but also reminding. So what could our anniversary be about if not forgetting our links with the past and our resources emerging from our present? What else could this mean with us in the space on stage, if not our most personal selves and vivacity: our own - artistically crafted - time?
