We could say that the past year in Hungarian literature has been all about Gergely Péterfy. His important and large-scale book Kitömött barbár ("Stuffed Barbarian”), ten years in the writing, has already gone through several editions and picked up innumerable awards, among them the Aegon Prize, the most significant privately established accolade in the trade. This work, which has brought its author nationwide recognition and broad popularity, unites the reader-friendly values of a good his...torical adventure novel full of twists and turns with the merits of an artistic form and structure that passes the most exacting tests of the profession. The captivating story of the writer Ferenc Kazinczy and his friend Angelo Soliman, posthumously stuffed and put on display in the Imperial Natural History Collection on the orders of the emperor, represents a turning-point in contemporary Hungarian prose in the assessment of certain critics, so that there is no time like the present for the loyal literature buffs of Literarium to get to know the author up close. They can discover, for instance, how the scion of a Transylvanian family of importance in the history of literature has made his journey from studying Latin and Ancient Greek to success as a writer.
Péterfy's guest will be Éva Péterfy-Novák, who made her own debut as a writer last year - with similarly tumultuous success. Extracts from Péterfy's works will be read by the author as well as by Csilla Radnay, while the musical context will be provided by two wonderful musicians in the shape of Samu Gryllus and Albert Márkos.
