Like everyone from the great generation of Megáll az idő (Time Stands Still), Halassi (Márk Zala) would like to live freely and in love with his wife Ilona (Kati Lázár) and children. Freedom takes the form of a two-week holiday voucher to Lake Balaton, and love a vibrator acquired to revive the couple's sex life, which the hero fetches from the factory amid an armed struggle. They arrive in a desolate mansion on a mining estate, where the one-time driver of our people's wise leader puts them up.... However, not only love and the holiday, but the story itself is interrupted because of a huge hair that keeps repeatedly sprouting on Ilona's face. While doctors attempt to remove the hair in a Budapest hospital, Halassi wanders around the city, and looks back on himself in the future as an old man. Replete with stylistic parodies, surreal visions and reflective elements, Esterházy and Gothár produced a post-modern picaresque novel without fate, a drama without drama in which, in a captivatingly natural way, singer Zsuzsa Cserháti fits alongside a Western parody and a black goddess masquerading as a sado-masochistic ticket inspector.
