Moving Target
Dance photography through the eyes of a choreographer
19 June 2018 Tuesday
6 July 2018 Friday
Festival Square

János Lakatos may have been teaching dance for 21 years, but he once wanted to be a visual artist and spent ten years practicing graphic design and painting. Lakotos has now returned to his youthful origins with a camera in his hands to attempt to capture the magic of dance in a single composition. Through Lakotos's photos, we are able to glimpse a unique world and marvel at the shared beauty of body and soul, whether it is in the rehearsal room, during a stage performance or messing around on the street.
Mastering these spontaneous forms of sparkling movement requires quickness of hand and foot.
Most of the photos appearing in this exhibition depict unposed positions: a few hundredths of a second in time of a drifting fall, a powerful kick or a simple touch. The goal of these snapshots is to immortalise the fleeting harmony of the bodies, capturing the energy of dance in their immobile state and transferring this energy to the person viewing the photographs.
