This exhibition presents a variety of cimbaloms from museum pieces to the most recently developed versions, from small 40-kilo cimbaloms to the nearly 100-kilo concert cimbalom, and from instruments humble in execution to opulently carved examples, as well as tárogatós made by Vencel József Schunda, János Stowasser and József Tóth. The exhibition also features the clarinet, oboe and Turkish pipe, the latter the direct predecessor of the tárogató, and reveals how these three instruments were "rol...led into one” towards the end of the 19th century by Vencel József Schunda, thus giving birth to the modern tárogató as a new instrument particularly suited to expressing the depths of the Hungarian spirit in music.
